The Autobarn Service Center Open House Showcases New Facility

The Autobarn Service Center became a one-of-its-kind service facility when it officially opened August 1st of this year.

Once home to the Shure Microphone factory, the 128,000 square-foot building is now one of the largest car-service facilities in the entire area. In fact, The Autobarn Service Center became the only service center in the nation that was visited by Elvis Presley himself! Shure was the only microphone brand Presley used, which led him to visit the factory multiple times in the 60’s and 70’s.

Additionally to the service facilities, The Autobarn Service Center houses 600 pre-owned cars indoors, in heated showrooms.

“Originally it was probably 14 or 15 different rooms,” said Autobarn owner Richard Fisher, pointing to the huge showroom on the first floor. “We retained the floor, but took out everything else.”

The building has gone through a major renovation to have The Autobarn Service Center built exactly like a Mazda Retail Evolution Dealership, which is seen throughout every detail and finish in the interior. The center is located behind the Target and Best Buy on Howard Street in Evanston. It offers rental cars and bikes, as well as shuttles to nearby train and bus stations, allowing customers to be able to leave the center while their car is being serviced. The center also offers free multi-point inspection, alignment check, and car wash.

While the service center specializes in Mazda, Fiat and Alfa Romeo repairs, it can service all major car brands. The Autobarn Service Center offers factory-certified technicians with 1,604 years of service experience combined.

“We’re driven by the fact that we’re enthusiastic about these cars, we love these brands, we drive them, we fix them, we sell them, and we race them,” Fisher told Chicago News. “We really enjoy these cars, we believe in them, and that’s why we did this.”
