FIRST LOOK: 2017 Infiniti QX30 – Mercedes with a Japanese Logo

Ok, so how do you get hands on the brand new QX30 that has not hit any of the dealerships yet? Well, it’s pretty simple. First, you’re invited to the media preview; second, you fly for about four hours to Seattle. Then, you have dinner at a downtown hotel and go for a 400-mile road trip the next morning. While we’ll talk further about the trip in our next Friday’s issue, now we will focus solely on the car.

A lot of manufacturers go for joint projects these days. Of course, some of them are more successful, some of them are less, and some of them, sadly, are closer to a disaster. The new QX30, a brand-new model for Infiniti, is a perfect example of good and productive teamwork. If you look at the car, you would immediately notice how it is similar to a 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLA. Some would even say it looks the same, just with a different logo.

In my view, however, the car is still very much Infiniti – look at least at the unique front grille and a whole range of available features. A 2-liter 4-cylinder engine generates 208 hp and 258 lb-ft. It perfectly reacts to even the slightest touch of the pedal and, at the same time, drives very smoothly, proving its luxury heritage just one more time. The engine shuts off every time you stop at the light, helping to maintain a decent fuel efficiency for a car that’s called a luxury crossover…
