I have to admit, I wasn’t a fan back in 2008 when I first saw the new version. It was tall, short, and had huge fender-gaps. Not the aggressive stance you’d expect. It also lacked in the handling department, and had a very cheap-feeling interior. The design was interesting, but it just didn’t seem all that finished to me. Maybe it was a factor of the state of the auto-industry at that time, but ever since its release, it’s been getting better and better.

Which brings us to this R/T Scat Pack version with the Shaker Hood that we had the chance to drive. Some reviews are just simply more fun than others. While we enjoy bringing you analysis on everyday motors, we are car enthusiasts and live for days when we can unleash the 485hp Hemi 392 cu. in. engine in the Challenger. We were at first disappointed that Dodge sent us an automatic-trans, but that gave way to shock at how good of an automatic this is. One of the best we’ve driven, outside of the Cadillac CTS-V. It shifts quickly and authoritatively, but only when you ask it to – it will bounce off the rev-limiter all day if you want. There’s a sharp rasp of engine ignition cut on upshifts that makes the glorious sound of the V8 engine even better. Really great job, Dodge!

It’s a reminder that electronic controls can even make a throwback muscle car better, and that extends to the infotainment system. Its robust screen size and LCD center dash display a ton of information, and among the many apps available our version included the Dodge ‘Performance Pages.’ This allowed us to measure our 0-60mph times, quarter-mile times, etc. It also has a launch-control which lets you fine-tune the launch RPM, and coupled with the aggressive…
