The whole idea of the Sports Sedan is a European one – fast, good-looking and comfortable. Sleek, great-handling and luxurious. Literally all you could ever want from a car. Since then, everyone from Lexus to Lincoln have tried to copy what the Germans started, and although they have come close – this A6 proves they still have some work to do.

It starts when you grab the door handle to get in … wait, let me back up – it starts when you walk up to the car. Some might say this generation of A6 is starting to get dated, but I say it’s one of the best-looking cars you can get. It’s not trying to be anything new, or trying to be different. It’s just a great-looking sports sedan. And then, when you finally do grab the door handle, you’re treated to the most solid and precise action from everything you touch. All the controls are easy to use and in the right place.

Everything is made with the finest materials. There are expensive-looking/feeling leathers, wood and aluminum. It’s just a great place to sit down and gobble up some expressway miles. And when you think about it, that’s what it’s designed for – grand-touring along the Autobahn. I particularly like the wood veneer that’s inlaid in the dash and door panels. It’s made up of narrow strips aligned in a parallel pattern, almost like floor-boards. With a rich-looking matte finish, it’s just plain beautiful.

Performance? Yes – in spades. The 333hp 3.0T engine gets this large sedan up and moving fast, and the direct injection and high-compression make for an amazing 30MPG highway. The handling is excellent, as you would expect.
