It is generally quite a difficult task to save everything that’s “classic,” and, at the same time, add as many modern perks as possible, and this is the goal the Fiat engineers had with the 2016 and 2015 Abarth models.
Let’s start with what’s moving this car forward. The numbers of the new 2016 model’s engine are pretty much the same: four cylinders plus a turbo, 160 horsepower and 170 pound feet of torque. Considering the fact that the car weighs a little more than 2,500 pounds and only takes up half a parking space, this is certainly enough. However, if you’d like to modify it and get more, by all means do so. And, most importantly, Fiat dealers offer you a special “upgrade kit” for around $1,500. That will be an additional 20 horsepower, plus improved turbo. You can then jack it up to 200 horsepower in a compact size.
I both love and hate Abarth’s interior. Yes, there are a lot of interesting things they have added. For instance, a larger, more rounded display instead of the driver’s dashboard you’re used to seeing. It does look more original and authentic. However, the dash backlight cannot be adjusted automatically, and, if you need it, you have to increase (or decrease) its brightness manually every time.
