Apple Store on Chicago’s Riverfront Opens This Weekend
Apple is ready to open its first town square retail concept store this weekend on Michigan Avenue. If you’re thinking, well isn’t there already an Apple Store on Michigan Avenue? Well you’d be right, but this is store is the first of its kind. Right along the Chicago River, the Apple Store looks like a giant MacBook with the ceiling of the store emulating a MacBook cover surrounded by glass. The first in a new generation of Apple stores the design comes from Foster + Partners and lends itself to a more inclusive community feeling by design.
The transparent store is both there and not there, but the construction of the “barely there” store cost Apple $27 million. The first of future stores like it to come. The plaza is inviting people to share the open space around them and doesn’t try as hard to push product as it does push innovation.
