Soldier Field to host international rugby matches

This November, Soldier Field will once again host an exhibition of some of the world’s top rugby players. USA Rugby and TLA worldwide, along with the partners, Chicago Sports Commission and Soldier Field, announced the return of the latest edition of The Rugby Weekend. Soldier Field, Toyota Park will be the host of a triple-header rugby games of both men’s and women’s teams. “We are excited to welcome back premier rugby to the great city of Chicago this fall. Rugby has established a home a Soldier Field and Chicago due to the incredible success of the past three Marquee Matches.” said Michael Kelly, General Superintendent and CEO of the Chicago Park District.

  The city last hosted this rugby weekend in 2016 where history was made as Ireland claimed their first win over the All Blacks in 111 years. 62,000 fans turned up to watch the games and celebrate Rugby. This year’s line up features the USA Men’s and Women’s Eagles taking on New Zealand’s Maori All Blacks and the Women’s rugby world cup champions the Black Ferns. Ireland will return to the site of their victory and take on their Italian rivals. The rugby weekend starts November 3rd at noon with all three matches occurring back-to-back. Tickets went on sale Tuesday, May 15th. Additionally, all ticket purchasers of The Rugby Weekend 2016 will be given a two-day window beginning at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 18th.
