Chicago Blackhawks Ready to Win Again in New Season
The Chicago Blackhawks are our current sports dynasty having won three Stanley Cup National Hockey League Championship trophies in the last seven years.
The last time Chicago had a sports dynasty was Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls when they won six NBA Championships in the 1990s.
The Blackhawks last won two years ago in 2015, but they disappointed fans last season when they lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Nashville Predators.
Many feel battle fatigue is settling in and the glory days are over.
However, no one is counting the Blackhawks out. They are still among the top teams in the league and will remain highly competitive throughout the regular season.
Like the NBA season, the NHL season is a long one. The Blackhawks played their season opener against the defending NHL Champions Pittsburgh Penguins at the United Center and will play an 82-game regular season.
Some experts are calling this year’s team “younger and quicker.”
For the past two seasons the Blackhawks have been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. A team this good on ice, they say, will not want to accept a third-successive year ending in an underwhelming fashion.
I will be the optimist and say look for the Blackhawks to make a strong run to the finals. They may not win it all, but they will still be among the best.
On offense Brandon Saad and captain Jonathan Toews should renew their chemistry which helped them win Stanley Cups in 2013 and 2015.
On defense the focus will be on Connor Murphy who looks like the future. He will partner with Michal Kempny, who should be a formidable defender in a contract season.
