Starbucks to eliminate plastic straws

Starbucks will eliminate plastic straws from all of its locations by 2020. The company is making the change amid evidence of the environmental threats plastic straws pose to the ocean. According to the Shedd Aquarium over 8 million tons of plastics ends up in the ocean each year, plastic straws included. The company will be replacing the straws with specially designed lids and biodegradable options. The company has already made this change in several of their locations such as in Seattle, where plastic straws and utensils have been banned. Starbucks will become the largest food and beverage company to eliminate plastic straws.
