Police Say Fake Uber, Lyft Drivers Robbing Passengers at Gunpoint Downtown

Fake Uber and Lyft drivers are picking people up in Chicago’s ritzier neighborhoods and robbing them at gunpoint, police say.

Five people were robbed in the early morning hours by fake rideshare drivers beginning in late May in Lincoln Park, the Gold Coast and River North, police said in a community alert.

Police say rideshare users should check the name and license plate of the driver against their app before getting inside the car since the attacks are becoming more common.
