Did Jussie Smollett stage his attack? That is the question everyone is asking. In the newest update on the attack investigation, some media sources suggested that, according to the police sources close to the investigation, Jussie Smollett, one of the key actors in the Empire TV series, potentially “orchestrated” his own attack.
The rumors leaked after the Chicago Police raided the home of two “persons of interest” Wednesday night, who appeared on the surveillance video from the night of the attack. Both turned out to be someone Smollett personally knew, as they both appeared as extras on the show. Police recovered bleach, shoes, electronics, receipts and other items from their house. Both men left for Nigeria on the day of the attack and were picked up upon their return in O’Hare on Wednesday.
According to CPD, both men are currently persons of interest, not suspects. Smollett himself was questioned by the police on Thursday. In the meantime, Anthony Guglielmi, Chicago Police Chief Communications Officer, slammed ‘inaccurate media reports.’
“Media reports about the Empire incident being a hoax are unconfirmed by case detectives. Supt Eddie Johnson has contacted @ABC7Chicago to state on the record that we have no evidence to support their reporting and their supposed CPD sources are uninformed and inaccurate,” posted Guglielmi on Twitter late Thursday afternoon.
