Cook County begins electronic filing for civil cases

Cook County Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown introduced the county’s new electronic filing system just in time to meet the Illinois Supreme Court deadline. The launch of this system comes six months after an extension was given to Brown to end paper submissions in Cook County. This transition allows people to file lawsuits and other legal matters on the internet rather than having to make an in-person visit. To assist in the change, the clerk’s office has offered training through webinars and hosted a trainer seminar for almost 1,000 attorneys. The clerk’s office’s staff is assisting people to register. In order to register with eFileIL people just need an email address and a electronic form of payment. According to Brown, the transition is going well.
