A Hint of German and a Whole Lot of Fun
There are so many great things in Lincoln Square and by no means does this guide or any of my other neighborhood guides showcase the only things worth checking out in the area. First of all, Lincoln Square not to be confused with Lincoln Park or Logan Square, it is literally a square on the North Side surrounded by the Uptown and Edgewater communities. This area has a lot of German influence – so much so that the German government donated a piece of the Berlin Wall to the community in 2008. The monument stands today at the Western Brown Line stop.
On your visit to Lincoln Square you must (and I mean must) visit the Old Town School of Folk Music. With classes and performances there’s something to do here all the time, it also happens to be a staple of the neighborhood and can’t be passed up.
Looking for some good grub? A causal and always great spot is the neighborhood is beloved Monti’s. A no nonsense and 100 percent relaxed and awesome atmosphere, this a great place to hang out, grab a beer and a cheesesteak. Yes I’m talking cheesesteak here. Messy, cheesy and gooey deliciousness.
If you’re looking for a joint a little more upscale, that may not even be the right word for it, but sophisticated maybe? Anyways, a place to get a glass of wine and enjoy a cheese plate or appetizer, is Gather. A great place to well, gather, meet up with friends or loved ones and get some light grub or drinks. There’s a fun and lighthearted atmosphere about the place that’s both inviting and appealing. I enjoy these types of restaurants where sharing is encouraged, it gives a greater sense of intimacy to the table and just makes the whole dining experience more fun.
After you’ve gotten some culture from the area, eaten some good grub, the next thing anyone and everyone should do is have some fun. A great place in the area to do this is none other than
I know what you’re thinking, bowling? That’s your idea of a good night?!.. But trust me! This is more than your average bowling alley, there is a ton of awesome things to do here, like a huge bar to drink around, and there are constantly shows! Drink and food specials every night of the week, and even a karaoke night. There’s always fun right around the corner, which is definitely worth checking out.
I hope you enjoy your visit to the beautiful Lincoln Square, a square in the heart of the North Side, where although a very distinct and sectioned square has so much history and culture to offer. Contributing once again to the beauty of this city, where diversity and unexpected gems lurk on every corner.
