Northwestern Named Best Hospital In Illinois
Northwestern remains the best hospital in Illinois for the sixth year in a row, according to U.S. News and World Report. Northwestern was named the 13th best hospital in the country, a drop from its 8th-place ranking last year.
The ratings are based on a combination of factors, including the amount of data available at hospitals. The more data that is available, the more it’s used to calculate procedures and conditions ratings, versus having only a few years worth of ratings available. Another factor used is “socioeconomic status and transfer patients,” which is the data used to determine the amount of patients served of various income levels and ages. U.S. News has also improved its scoring for hospitals by not penalizing hospitals treating low-income patients or for accepting high-risk transfer cases.
U.S. News puts together this list every year to help patients make more informed decisions about where to receive care. The report is compiled from data from over 30,000 physicians and 5,000 medical centers across the country.
Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota was the No. 1 ranked facility. Following Northwestern for best hospitals in Illinois were Rush University Medical Center, Loyola University Medical Center, Advocate Christ Medical Center and NorthShore University Health-Evanston Hospital.
