Local Nonprofit Offers Free Laundry Services
The Local nonprofit organization Current Initiatives (Current) is offering free laundry services for residents in need on the Southside of Chicago. The Laundry Project will provide all the funding and items to wash and dry clothes this weekend for 30 families estimating to wash and dry about 300 loads of laundry.
On top of providing laundry services Current will also have volunteers to entertain children and interact with families and guests and the Laundromat. This is the second Laundry Project held in Chicago this year.
LaundryCares Foundation is as sponsor for the event, but volunteers and supplies are always in need. If you’re interested in donating items these are the most needed items listed for the event: detergent, bleach quarters (rolls of $10), one-gallon Ziploc bags, garbage bags, coloring books, crayons, fabric softener and laundry baskets.
The event is to help families that have a hard time pay for these services these days when the average cost of eight loads of laundry can be almost $35. Current and the LaundryCares Foundation are working towards alleviating that burden.
