McDonald’s Store No.1 to be Demolished in December
The McDonald’s Store No. 1 Museum in suburban Illinois is scheduled to be torn down next month. The museum was opened in 1985 after the original store was torn down in 1984. The museum is a replica of McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc’s first store that opened in 1955 in Des Plaines, Il. Kroc is still considered to be the founder of the McDonald’s fast food chain although the idea came from a hamburger shop in San Bernardino, Calif. in 1954. Kroc franchised the restaurant, opened the first store in Des Plaines and purchased the McDonald’s name from the brothers in 1961.
While the museum has been popular among tourists, the building has had issues with flooding since 2008. After the building has been demolished the land will be given back to the community of Des Plaines.
