Date Night Bites: Great Dinner Date Spots in Chicago

Au Cheval
800 W. Randolph St.
Chicago, IL 60607

The ambiance of Au Cheval is perfect for a night out with your beau.  The dim restaurant light by candlelight oozes romance for you and that special one.  The mood is great, but the food speaks for itself.  If you’ve never been to Au Cheval they have incredible wait times and one of the best burgers in town.  Their cheeseburger with bacon is to die for, but they have more than that.  Strong drinks, French fries, chilaquiles and sides of thick cut peppered bacon if you want.  They even serve $3 tall boys everyday so you can blow your budget on food and stick to the cheap beer.

Giant
3209 W. Armitage Ave.
Chicago, IL 60647

I reviewed Giant recently and it truly is a great date spot.  Small and quaint (despite the name), Giant has a fresh yet intimate feeling that’s great for date nights.  When I went every table on the patio was couples on dates.  They have small portions that make sharing and tasting with your date another layer of the evening and enhance the romance.  It was voted one of the best new restaurants in the country by Bon Appétit and it really shines through as an outstanding place to dine.  And please for my sake order the eggplant, hands down one of my favorite dishes of all time.

Parachute
3500 N. Elston Ave.
Chicago, IL 60618

Parachute is also a very trendy and highly rated restaurant in Chicago.  Owned and operated by a husband and wife duo, Parachute puts a lot of love into these dishes.  A Korean fusion restaurant in Avondale, Parachute is a great spot to bring the one you love to dine in.  The not-overly priced restaurant has enough funky flavors and combinations to keep you both on your toes.

Lula Café
2537 N. Kedzie Ave.
Chicago, IL 60647

Lula gets a lot of credit for its weekend brunch menu, but the café has way more than brunch on the menu.  The vibe of the restaurant is very trendy, so if you were trying to impress a date this would be a good spot to go to.  Lula provides only the freshest ingredient for its dishes so the food is always tasty and rich.  They have dinner menu items al le carte, but if you’re feeling adventurous you could always do a six-course vegetarian-tasting menu.  The dish you order will be of the highest quality and more than likely a unique combination of flavors.

Yard House
1500 N. Clybourn Ave. c101
Chicago, IL 60610

Yard House is a great-date nightspot for more than just the food, but the location as well.  Located in the heart of Lincoln Park’s New City, Yard House offers plenty of fun, including bowling or catching a movie, the classic date activities.  Yard House is a reasonably priced restaurant and has a little bit of everything on the menu.  Burgers, ahi poke, pizza, chicken lettuce wraps, you name it, and they probably have something comparable on the menu.  Another added bonus is their beer selection.  Yard House has an extensive selection of beers from every category and very tasty martinis so it’s a great place to take your date to grab appetizers and cocktails before a big night out.  They also have a happy hour with half-priced appetizers and pizzas as well as $2 off beer, wine and cocktails Monday – Friday, 3 – 6 p.m. and late night Sunday – Thursday, 10:00 p.m. – Close (food only).

Piece Brewery & Pizzeria
1927 W. North Ave.
Chicago, IL 60622

While there are so many places to grab a slice in Chicago, Piece is a relatively upscale pizza establishment if there were such a thing.  Piece has New Haven style pizzas that make it unique to the rest of the deep-dish spots in town, but it also has a cozier feeling and more intimate setting than other pizza places.  The pizzas are a little pricey, but tasty and on the larger side.  If you’ve never had New Haven Style pizza, go to Piece and give it a true with your best date.

Boeufhaus
1012 N. Western Ave.
Chicago, IL 60622

If you have a date that loves to do things a little differently, Boeufhaus might be the perfect date nightspot with you.  This West Town gem operates like a French-German steakhouse with all of the old-world charm and cooking techniques, but with a contemporary twist.  As you might expect, a German restaurant is heavy on the meat side.  So bringing a vegetarian date here would be a no-no.  Classic sides of sauerkraut and spiced carrots, this is a spot you and your date won’t soon forget.

Avec
615 W. Randolph St.
Chicago, Il 60661

When it comes to trendy restaurants few areas compare to Chicago’s own West Loop. Serving up Mediterranean dishes with a Midwestern take, Avec is the place for an intimate evening with shared dishes. When you think of Mediterranean, fresh ingredients and light dishes come to mind and Avec is no different. They keep Mediterranean dishes fun and light and a large selection of small-shared plates and larger plates as well. A great place to taste, try and share with your significant other.

Dusek’s
1227 W. 18th St.
Chicago, IL 60608

In the bustling Pilsen neighborhood, Dusek’s takes up shared space with entertainment venue Thalia Hall and the cocktail lounge Punch House. The location makes it a great date spot because you can grab dinner here, see a concert at Thalia Hall and end the evening with a nightcap at Punch House. Dusek’s menu is elaborate and offers an array of both small plates and larger entrees that invite guests to share or keep their own meals separate. They have a variety of oysters, which keep things on the romantic side, as well as food items from foie gras to beef-fat fries. Dusek’s is a great place for a variety of dates of all kind and a lovely location to spend the whole evening.

Fat Rice
2957 W. Diversey Ave.
Chicago, IL 60647

Fat Rice got a lot of hype when it first opened in 2013, but its food quality has kept it popular over the last four years. The menu is always changing, growing and surprising its customers. Some of its most-popular items include pork and ginger dumplings as well as larger items like the pork chop curry and Maputo peanut chicken. This is a great spot for the more adventurous and a great way to get to know your date.

Owen & Engine
2700 N. Western Ave.
Chicago, IL 60647

Owen & Engineis a wonderful dinner date spot because it has the perfect touch of elegance, but serves hearty dinner classics at the same time. Perhaps best known for its amazing fish and chips dinner (and it’s very good), they have a variety of dishes including pierogies and another English classic bangers and mash. These hearty meals will make your heart warm and your belly full. There’s also a movie theater across the street if you wanted to catch a film after dinner with your date.
