Chicago’s Top Restaurant Made Over $25 Million in 2016

Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse on 1028 N. Rush Street topped all restaurants in Chicago by grossing $25 million last year. Gibsons is one of nine Chicago independent restaurants that made the list of top 100 independent restaurants in the country, according to a new study. Last of the Chicago restaurants in the top 100 was Tavern On Rush, 1031 N. Rush at number 93 in the country with $13.4 million in gross sales. The independent restaurant list is compiled by Restaurant Business and defines an independent restaurant as a non-chain restaurant with no more than five locations.

The second Chicago restaurant and 20th in the country is listed as Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab, 60 E. Grand Ave. Joe’s averaged an estimated $21.2 million in gross sales with the average guest check of $80. Restaurant Business lists the top 100 independent restaurants in the country every year. Chicago had only nine restaurants in 2016, down from the previous year’s 10 places
