Waukegan Police Officer Dragged While Pursuing Stolen Vehicle

A video footage released yesterday shows a Waukegan police officer being dragged for a short distance while in pursuit of a stolen vehicle. The officer suffered minor injuries and was rushed to the hospital immediately. The officer was said to be recovering yesterday when he was released from the hospital.

The Waukegan police were reported of a stolen vehicle on Saturday evening in the north suburb. When they spotted the vehicle at a gas station in the area, the officers approached the vehicle to investigate. The incident took place at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday on the 900 block of Grand Avenue, according to the Waukegan Police Department. As soon as the driver saw the officers approaching, he started driving off the car, dragging the officer in tag for a short distance. A passer-by recorded the incident on his cell phone.

The video shows the officer being dragged for at least 30 to 40 feet across the gas station.

The officers pursued the vehicle, but in vain. It was last seen at Sheridan and Belvidere roads. The police have requested anybody who spots the vehicle to report to the police immediately. Police warn not to approach the vehicle or the driver at any cost. The description of the vehicle: a grey, four-door 2005 Volkswagen with Illinois license plate Z842693.
