Man charged with aggravated battery of a police officer

Edward D. Thompson, 36, has been charged with one felony count of aggravated battery of a police officer. Thompson was arrested May 5th on the 2100 block of South Wabash. Thompson struck a victim in the chest and refused to leave an establishment on the 1900 block of South Michigan after repeated requests to do so. A traffic stop was then conducted on the offender after witnesses recognized his car. Thompson appeared to be under the influence. The subject grabbed the officer conducting the stop by the throat and began to strangle him. Additional officers were called to the scene. Thompson is facing a multitude of other charges including one felony count of aggravated battery/strangle, one felony count of aggravated battery in a public place, and a number of misdemeanors.
