Chicago Halts Self-Driving Cars For Now
Chicago’s alderman Ed Burke, 14th Ward, wants to ban self-driving cars in the area. He believes they’re unsafe, unreliable and dangerous. While self-driving cars have been in development Burke has been fighting to keep them off of Chicago streets. Fearful that they could take jobs away, but mostly afraid that a small glitch in their programing could harm passengers and pedestrians or worse, kill them.
Others support the initiative to bring technology to our city. Saying that if we shut down the idea now, what does it say about us? That we’re not open to new technologies or expanding ideas?
While the governor has yet to sign the bill allowing the new technology into Chicago, other areas across the country have already starting using them. If the move is to go forward with allowing self-driving cars, it might be best then to start enforcing more legislation and restrictions on the technology.
